research assistant (m,f,x), from 01.04.2025 until 31.03.2028 at the latest (end of project), 19,915 hours per week, TVL E13

DThe multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of microbial biotechnology at Ruhr University Bochum is devoted to developing new biocatalysts and reaction strategies towards compounds of relevance for health and industry. With the overarching goal to reach a more sustainable economy, we identify and optimize enzymes (from gene to product) and integrate them into complex reaction cascades. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to acheive biotechnological break-throughs. As part of an industry-academia consortial project, we currently offer a for a graduate student aiming towards a PhD degree.

Your research project focuses on the optimization of a biocatalytic redox reaction. This will include methods of enzyme mining and characterization, as well as enzyme engineering. Further tasks may be the coupling with other chemo- and biocatalytic reactions, as well as reaction optimization, and scaling from analytical to multi-liter scale.

Your tasks:

  • You take research responsibility to drive forward a project within a consortium of industrial and academic partners
  • You produce proteins - from cloning of genes to protein purification - and perform biotransformation reactions in mL to L scale
  • You perform high-throuput screening methods and instrumental analysis (liquid and gas chromatography, spectroscopic and mass spectrometric methods)
  • You self-responsibly ensure microbiological strain maintenance and operate and maintain biotechnological equipment
  • You plan, conduct and document experiments independently and reliably

Dein Profil

Your profile:

  • You hold a master's degree (or equivalent) in a suitable field of study (e.g. biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry)
