The Chair of statics and dynamics at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for a
research associate (m,f,x), until 31.12.2028 (end of project funding phase), 39,83hours per week, TVL E13
The research focus of the Institute for Structural Mechanics (Prof. Dr. Roger A. Sauer) is on the development of computational methods for the realistic analysis of materials, components and load-bearing systems. Current research topics include non-linear scale-bridging material models for conventional and fibre-reinforced concretes, numerical simulations in tunnel construction, computer aided design of biologic shell structures, optimization frameworks, computational intelligence and structural reliability.
The task comprises the scientific processing of a sub-project within the framework of the interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre CRC 1683 ‘Methods of interaction for the modular reuse of existing load-bearing structures’. The research focuses on the development of numerical methods for the modeling and digital design of connections of reused concrete modules. All basic connection types, as well as a possible prestressing of the connection, will be considered. Optimization algorithms will be developed for the most important connection types in order to minimize material consumption, costs and manufacturing emissions. This requires the development of suitable scale-bridging simulation models that can accurately describe the mechanical behavior of the connections - taking into account the contact stress, prestressing and concrete damage at the connection points.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is RUB’s declared aim.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
