The Global South Studies Center invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position in the research project “Medium-scale farmers in rural Africa: Transformations in belonging, property, kinship and power’“ funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.

YOUR TASKS

  • independent, qualitative-ethnographic research on domestic entrepreneurs in agriculture in Namibia, Tanzania and Ghana

  • research on agrarian change in the context of, amongst others, changing urban and rural relations, agri-food value chains, intergenerational inheritance and local politics that mediating access to resources

  • writing publications and presenting research in international conferences

  • researching and bringing together methods, theories and case studies in a comparative research design

  • project coordination in close collaboration with partner institutions in Africa

YOUR PROFILE

  • doctoral degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology or related discipline

  • proven experience in ethnographic research, preferably in rural areas of the Global South

  • fitness and flexibility to travel to remote rural places

  • excellent analytical and organizational skills

  • pertinent publication record

  • excellent command of written and spoken English

  • team-oriented and interested in continuing your professional development

  • motivated to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team
