YOUR TASKS
You will take on teaching duties and conduct research of an appropriately high standard in the specified area of English Literature and Cultural Studies with a focus on Gender and Queer Studies. Teaching duties will extend over the full range of periods and genres in English literature since the early modern period.
You will offer courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, for some combined degrees (esp. the M.A. Gender and Queer Studies), and also for prospective teachers of English. Your tasks will additionally include the supervision of Ph.D. candidates (literature and cultural studies), examinations, the further development of course programmes, and a range of associated administrative duties. You will participate in joint research activities, both in the department and at faculty level, and initiate and conduct research projects which are supported by external funding. It is expected that you will be able to contribute to the further development of the faculty’s international standing.
Central tasks will also include co-operation with the Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Cologne (GeStiK) and continuation of the e-journal gender forum.

YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for an excellent academic in the field of English Literature and Cultural Studies, with particular interest in Gender and Queer Studies. We expect a focus on Drama and Theatre, as well as on Performative Arts in Shakespeare’s time. Applicants will have excellent qualifications (Ph.D., Habilitation, or equivalent). The successful candidate should be prepared to participate in interdisciplinary and crossfaculty teaching programmes and research. Experience in teaching and research on an international level, as well as in the acquisition of external funding, will be an advantage. German language skills are required to fulfil the tasks in academic self-administration.

The position is available at the earliest possible date. Formal requirements are detailed in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
