As part of the DFG research group 5815 (FOR 5815 “Structural and functional lipid droplet heterogeneity”, https://for5815.de/), the Institute of Virology and Cell Biology of the University of Lübeck (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. N. Tautz) is searching for a PhD candidate to drive a research project investigating the interactions between hepatitis C virus and the host cell lipid droplets within the research group of Dr. Gabrielle Vieyres.
PhD student (m/f/d)
Institute of Virology and Cell Biology
Despite their small genome, RNA viruses are capable to hijack a myriad of cellular pathways and outsmart the host innate immune response in order to replicate their genome, thereby causing a broad range of diseases. The research group “Cell biology of RNA viruses” of Gabrielle Vieyres unravels these complex host-pathogen interactions https://www.vuz.uni-luebeck.de/research/cell-biology/research-group-vieyres/.
Tasks:
The successful candidate will focus on elucidating the relevance of lipid droplet heterogeneity in the replication cycle and pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus. In addition to the traditional virology and molecular/cellular biology techniques, the prospective student will employ state-of-the-art imaging and image analysis tools to shed light on this host-pathogen interaction.
