At the University of Stuttgart, Department of Technical Biochemistry, we are offering two PhD positions in Biocatalysis & Enzyme Engineering .

Here we are seeking a PhD candidate in Biocatalysis & Enzyme Engineering: Fluorinated building blocks for sustainable synthesis - to join our interdisciplinary research team.

The position (50% TV-L E13) is fully funded for 4 years and explicitly offers the opportunity to obtain a PhD.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer new-to-nature enzymes
  • Clone genes, express and purify proteins
  • Perform directed evolution experiments
  • Characterize enzyme function and activity
  • Use computational tools for enzyme design
  • Guide and mentor Bachelor’s and Master’s students

Your Profile

  • MSc (completed or near completion) in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related field
  • Passionate about enzyme mechanisms, biocatalysis, and protein engineering
  • A collaborative team player in an international, interdisciplinary environment
  • Experience in molecular biology, enzymology, chemical synthesis, or computational protein design is a plus
