The research project deals with the electrochemical CO2 reduction to formic acid and higher hydrocarbons by designing multi-layer gas diffusion electrodes based on a modelling and simulation approach. We are looking for a PhD student to further develop an existing continuum model that we have already published and to simulate different modes of electrolyzer operation (digital twin). Furthermore, the model should also be used to fit electrochemical impedence spectra in order to characterize the electrodes. Last but not least, there is the possibility to collaborate with the Institute of Computer Physics towards a multiscale approach and combine their atomistic modelling/simulation approach with the continuum model.
